State’s online, nonprofit university offers new students opportunity for additional financial assistance
INDIANAPOLIS As Hoosier parents prepare to send their children back to school, WGU Indiana is helping adults make the “smart choice” to return to school themselves. The state’s online, nonprofit university announced that 25 Smart Choice Scholarships, each valued at up to $2,000, are immediately available to new undergraduate and graduate students.

Each Smart Choice Scholarship is open to students enrolling in any of WGU Indiana’s more than 50 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in business, IT, healthcare and education. Applications are being accepted for these scholarships through September 30.
“For Hoosier adults who want to return to school to complete their college degree, WGU Indiana truly represents the smartest choice,” said Chancellor Allison Barber. “The affordability of our tuition, the flexibility of online learning and the benefits of our competency-based approach help make college more accessible to Hoosier adults, regardless of circumstance.”
WGU Indiana’s competency-based learning model allows students to study at times that work with their schedule, moving quickly through what they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. This approach enables many students to accelerate their studies and finish faster, which saves them time and money. The university has not raised the price of student tuitionaround $6,000 per yearsince its founding in 2010.
To be eligible for the Smart Choice Scholarship, applicants must be officially admitted to WGU Indiana, complete the scholarship application and be interviewed by a scholarship counselor. While WGU Indiana will award up to 25 scholarships statewide, recipients will be selected based on their academic records, financial need and readiness for online study, among other considerations.
